Privacy and Trust in Infectious Disease Early Warning Systems: Why Context Matters
The Infectious Disease Early Warning System envisaged by the i-sense project will integrate content from social networks and internet searches with other more conventional data. The internet originated material will usually not have been written for the purposes of aiding disease surveillance, and no specific consent will have been given for its use in this way. This talk presents and ethically analyses some scenarios for the use of internet originated data in disease surveillance, trying to identify both what types of uses of data are likely to be most controversial, and how ethical analysis can contribute.
This should be an interesting and topical talk, particularly amidst the recent debates surrounding health data. We hope you will join us and spread the word among your friends and colleagues.
The talk will start promptly at 13.00 and last 30 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of questions. There will be time afterwards to chat over tea, coffee and refreshments, which will be provided on arrival.
