On 9 and 10 July 2019, we held the i-sense Digital Health Conference, our biggest event yet. Attracting more than 200 delegates collectively across two days, the aim of the conference was to share the latest innovations in digital health research around infectious diseases, and offer the opportunity to build and strengthen collaborations across different sectors.
As the conference marked five years of the i-sense project, it was also an opportunity to celebrate the successes of the project and the achievements of our interdisciplinary team.
The inspiring two-day program covered topics including the need for digital health, infectious disease surveillance, harnessing genomics, sensors and nanomaterials for connected diagnostics, delivering mobile health in developing country settings, and developing integrated ecosystems for treatment and care. Speakers included 14 i-sense members from UCL, Imperial College London, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and Newcastle University, and nine invited talks from the Department for International Trade, NHS England, ISI Foundation and ISI Global Science Foundation, Scripps Research Institute, University of Oxford, GSM Association, Alan Turing Institute and University of Cambridge.
The four panel discussions and two networking receptions gave delegates the invaluable opportunity to explore topics further, engage in fruitful discussions, build new collaborations, and strengthen existing partnerships.
"A fantastic couple of days learning about how cutting edge biological and computational research is being applied to address existing and future needs in healthcare worldwide," and "It was amazing to see the progression of the i-sense projects and how they have all flourished from seeds of ideas to tangible products and platforms," was just some of the positive feedback from attendees.
The conference also celebrated research taking place in the digital health space through 28 poster presentations and three live technology demonstrations. Congratulations to i-sense PhD student, Matthew Setterfield, who was awarded the prize for the best poster.
The event was a fantastic way to celebrate the achievements of i-sense and will be followed by a line-up of exciting events planned for i-sense Next Steps.
