i-sense researcher, Dr Jennifer Brookes (pictured left) and PhD student, Coline Jumeaux (pictured right) were selected for SET for Britain 2016 on Monday 7th March, as judge in the Physics category and poster presenter in the Engineering category, respectively.
Set for Britain is an annual event at the House of Commons, providing a prestigious forum, within which to present early-stage research in Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematical Sciences.
Jennifer participated as one of the judges in Physics for the second year running, joining this year Dr Heather Williams, Prof. Klaus Suhling, Dr Elizabeth Cunningham and Dr Mark Telling (Chair).
Jennifer said:
“Being selected as a judge is an honour, and an excellent opportunity for me to support and promote early stage STEM workers with exceptional talent”.
Coline presented her poster on a biomimetic approach to rapid flu detection, as part of i-sense’s vision to develop early warning systems for infectious diseases.
SET for Britain was established in order to encourage, support and promote Britain's early-stage research scientists, enabling them to showcase their work to leading decision makers, and ensure UK research and R&D continues to develop and progress.
This year provided an excellent opportunity for i-sense involvement, and demonstrated the exciting work being done by talented early-career researchers in the UK, ranging from quantum enhanced sensing, a new method of painlessly delivering medications across the skin and nature-inspired, rapid flu tests (Coline’s work).
