i-sense Director, Professor Rachel McKendry gave the 2015 Annual WiSETI Lecture "The Mobile Revolution: From M-Health to M-Powering Women" on Monday 9th March, as part of the University of Cambridge's Women of the World (WOW) and Science Festivals.
Rachel delivered an inspiring talk about her life and work as a woman in science and her research at the cutting edge of infectious diseases, nanotechnology, big data and telecommunications.
One of the key aims of this lecture was to to highlight the issues that particularly affect women in science, technology, engineering, medicine and maths (STEMM) and contribute to low retention rates in these subject.
Rachel joined an impressive line-up of male and female speakers seeking to address issues around gender, equality and diversity in science, academia and the workplace as part of Cambridge’s WOW Festival. In 2014, Rachel won the Royal Society Rosalind Franklin Award and Lecture for her scientific achievements, her suitability as a role model and for her exciting proposal to launch a national competition to create mobile phone apps to inspire women to become leaders in STEM. Read more on this story.
