Peter Dobson is the former Director of Oxford University’s Begbroke Business and Science Park. Prior to this he was Senior Principal Scientist at Philips Research laboratories. In 1999 he spun-off what is now Oxonica plc, which specialises in making nanoparticles for applications ranging from sunscreens to catalysts. In 2000, he spun-off the hand-held diagnostics company Oxford Biosensors Ltd. In August 2002 he was appointed director of Begbroke Science Park, with the responsibility of setting up new research institutes to combine University activities with company R&D. This has led to him being in demand internationally to advise on Knowledge Transfer. He advises several corporate and national organisations on nanotechnology and was previously the Strategic Advisor on Nanotechnology to the Research Councils in the UK (2009-2012). In 2013, Professor Dobson was awarded the OBE in recognition of his contribution to science and engineering.
