Julia Spoors is a senior research technician with over 30 years experience working on internationally recognised research projects in the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologies Research Group within the Institute of Cellular Medicine at Newcastle University. She was awarded Fellow status within the Institute of Biomedical Science and is a Chartered Scientist specialising in immunodiagnostics, chemical and biological sensors, and the use of nanotechnology for medical diagnostics using microeletromechanical systems (MEMS). Julia has six years experience in cross disciplinary techniques including optical and electrical characterisation of MEMS resonant structures working closely with colleagues from the School of Mechanical and Systems Engineering at Newcastle University. Julia has developed a unique set of skills by collaborating with engineers, feeding into the design process of the microelectromechanical system (MEMS) devices so that the sensor surface will be fully compliant with immobilisation of bio-molecules at the interface.
In addition Julia organises and provides training for new technical, post-graduate, post-doctoral and clinical staff in the Institute of Cellular Medicine.
